Victory

victory_wpMany times this hugely popular game of bat and ball gets place in films. Films like Lagaan and Iqbal are milestones but there are many other Bollywood films based on cricket which are failed to shine. Victory speaks about cricket, a particular cricketer, his aspiration, conspiracy, animosity and about glitz and glamour. It basically encircles around one cricketer who dreamt big, has the capability to make it even bigger but misguided by wrong people. He reverts back, again recollected his lost dream and at last makes his dream come true by passing through many odds.

Victory speaks about how a small town cricketer gets swayed away from his real dream when he is trapped on the plot planned by mischievous people.  It directly or indirectly hinted to the small town boys like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh or Virender Sehwag who hailed from small towns but converted their dream into reality and touches the sky of stardom. Though the scriptwriter tried to include everything, it sounds dull. There are lots of missing elements. It does not possess the griping constituent that can hold the audience to view the entire film with lots of curiosity and fun.

Victory speaks about 24 years old aspiring cricketer Vijay (Harman Baweja) hailed from a small town of Jaisalmer. From his childhood, he dreamt to make a place to the Indian Cricket team. Though the path was not easy, Vijay by dint of hard work and bit of luck able to make to the Indian Cricket team. After hitting numbers of sixes and fours in almost every game that he played, he becomes India’s latest world-class batting sensation. Glory, name, fame and money kissed his feet.

Vijay blessed with many goodies at one time but gets deviated from his main aim that he has cherished from his childhood. As stardom overcast him, his performance began to fall. By the time, he realizes his mistake, he was thrown out of Indian cricket team and soon this hero became zero in the eyes of his supporters. Unable to bear the loss of name and reputation, his father (Anupam Kher) suffered a paralytic stroke.victory2

The tragedy inputs in Vijay the courage to fight back and regain the lost reputation. By dint of hard work and firm determination, he once again makes it back to the Indian team and also able to achieve back his lost love (Amrita Rao). With stellar performance, he brought victory to the Indian cricket team against Australia.

Debutante director Ajitpal Mangat’s has made a big attempt but could not emerge victorious. He had to pay a heavy price for casting all big cricketers of the world and trusting on the newcomer Harman Baweja.

On performance basis, Harman scores high but like his earlier flick, he failed to win the hearts of the audience. Amrita also played her part well. Anupam Kher is as usual superb.

On the whole, Victory is an average flick. The box office collection will not be very prominent. If you are free this weekend and want to see some international cricketers on celluloid, you are invited. The film will not prove a massive turnover for Harman and for the debutante director.
